Elisabeth Lecourt - les robes géographiques

Thinking, creasing, ironing - and zap, the paper map transforms into a day-dress. Elisabeth Lecourt gets from me an award for being the folder of the decade. Unfortunately, the garments are not wearable - made only to be watched. Doesn´t matter. It´s fantastic anyway what Elisabeth Lecourt creases for us.
For three years now, the French-born, London-based artist develops map-garments that travel around the world to be presented in various galleries. Besides some other artwork by Elisabeth Lecourt, the current paper collection was presented at Berendsen Gallery in Rotterdam and the Foss Fine Art Gallery in London.

Since days, flags that become skirts, capes and turbans shout on me. I get visually molested by awful boring shirts with country names. I am traumatized by ridiculous headpieces that transform human beings in walking advertising spaces for breweries and ban every spark of beauty.
Germany is in the European Soccer championship fever - and for the first time in my life, I also became a soccer junkie since the quarter finals. But, as a stringent denier of flagdresses, flag make up, flag branded masks, crowns, heats and tricots, the big question is: What to wear?

After a long search, I finally found an option. And fortunately - a great one. Schalala is a fan-scarf remix project that was born in Berlin at the beginning of the year. On a virtual platform, the unconventional soccer fan will find a huge archive of international soccer fan scarves that can be virtually cutted, recomposed and recoded. And the best thing is, your personalized soccer scarf doesn´t have to stay a virtual product. After your creating process, Schalala offers you a free knitting pattern to download. Great idea. Unique option. A real alternative.

The Virtual Shoe Museum
21. June 2008 Art & Fashion, DIY & Customizing, Rare & Limited, Shoes & Sneakers

Liza Snook´s Virtual Shoe Museum is one of the most interesting databases for all kind of „shoe”-themes. In 2004 Snook called on artists, designers and photographers from all over the world to present their creations. Thanks god - they respond the call and helped to create a sweeping and very well arranged virtual exhibition, that is ordered by various criteria like Designers, Styles, Usage, Color, Materials, …
I was looking for the experimental and artsy shoes. But although those who search for danceshoes, cowboy boots, High Heels, high-tec creations etc. will discover amazing stuff in the Virtual Shoe Museum.

United by Stripes
18. June 2008 Art & Fashion, DIY & Customizing, Designers & LabelsThe work and publications of Amsterdam based artist, designer and theorist Maaike Gottschal center directions for use and improper use of clothing. Since 2006, United by Stripes is an ongoing art-, research and exhibition-project that studies the meaning and usage of stripes in clothing in order to use this as the basis for developing new stories, ideas and uses for clothing collections.
It´s not only the big designers, Maaike Gottschal examines, it´s also - for example - the representative function of football jersey and the various design elements and stories connected to the shirts. For me, an interesting project to show to you - especially now, when the European soccer championship is taking place. While watching the game Germany-Austria, I really wondered, how every country selects its own typography - are there special tricot designers? It the typo chosen by accident or do they develop an extra soccer tricot typo that is easy to scale, great to recognize and fits to the eye and the camera lenses. No clue…I should ask Maaike Gottschal.
