Christopher Kane SS09

17. September 2008 Designers & Labels Judith

Following Christopher Kane´s professional carreer is like reading a fast lane. And that although it´s only two years old. Since the 26-years old young designer graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2006 he´s not only consulting Madame Donatella Versace, but also became an active part in Atelier Swarovski. His awards range from Lancome Colour Award and Harrods Design Award up to the Young Designer of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards and are crowned by the Prize for being the New Designer of The Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2007. Along the way, Christopher Kane didn´t only design a line for Topshop and some show costumes for Kylie Minogue but also managed to come up with his own clothing line that got very positive critique right from the beginning. While I ask myself if the boy is also resting sometimes or if he´s maybe a creative transformer-robot put in a human body, I admire his SS09 collection that was just shown at London Fashion Week.
Inspired by “Planet of the Apes”, the ape-reminiscences only appear as prints on two dreses. The rest of the collection reminds me more on morphology and the play with the circles and semi circles – but anyway, not an easy-to-wear, but a great, inspiring output by Mr. Kane.
