Knit, design, art and now even unconventional jewelry – Marie-Louise Vogt is a pre-thinker when it comes to knits and crafts. In the context of Berlin Fashion Week, the Hamburg-based designer presented a pre-selection of her SS10 collection “Hey Gorgeous” and now, here is the brandnew lookbook photographed by Martin Thaker. It makes me want to have it all.

Movana Chen – Magazine-Knit

18. August 2009 Art & Fashion, Knitwear Judith

If on the streets, in studios or on runways – If it´s fashion, sooner or later, media is on the track.
Fashion magazines and fashion blogs, TV and online networks massively inspire and affect our common sense of style, decipher fashion codes of different subcultures and influence our collective taste.

No matter if we like or not, the brotherhood of fashion and media is a strong one, vivid because of continuous cross-fertilizing and growing since online users actively contribute.

Movana Chen, a Hong Kong-based artist and curator, calls this strong relationship into question. Is fashion making media? Is media making fashion? Where are the borders of observation and interaction?
What is the system of communication between individuals, fashion and media?

BLESS x Oxbow – Skolpens new faces

5. August 2009 Knitwear Judith

Never expected to call the Skolpen a sleeping beauty, but when BLESS kissed the dull Oxbow knit sweater alive, it evoke like a prince. No more thoughts about the ugly SKOLPEN frog, quaking the 90s aesthetics melody. What we see here, is the new born, famous again Oxbow knit sweater king, known for its great function and now – for fantastic design.

Thanks to BLESS who proved again that creativity and daringness lead to great things.
Hopefully the Oxbow design team has learned a great lesson about how to excite and refresh. It´s definitely not the stripes, checks and fancy prints that could create such a buzz. (more…)

Irina Shaposhnikova – Avant-Garde Knit

29. July 2009 Knitwear Judith

The great thing about upcoming designers is that the good ones quite stir the fashion-web even without having a website or public portfolio. When KB posted a magazine scan from Russian Vogue, Jen from knit kicks did some research and BANG – Russian knit-designer Irina Shaposhnikova who studied at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts – stood in the online-limelight.

Several Blogs and Fashion sites featured her work as a student and continued when Irina Shaposhnikova surprised again with her outstanding graduate collection “Crystallographica”. No matter if she knits or does other handicrafts, her fashion is art and her art is wearable. Don´t miss to glance at the “Crystallographica” Collection here.
