Sessùn – From anthropology student to fashion designer

17. February 2009 Designers & Labels Judith

From anthropology-student to fashion designer – not one single occupational counselor would have advised Emma Francois to choose a career path that is way more focused on the studies side job than on the field of study.
But because, life sometimes writes the best stories and talent combined with inveteracy sometimes leads to great things through try and error, Emma Francois came to the right decision when founding her label Sessùn back in 1996.

To finance her studies, Emma Francois designed small collections, produced them in South-Amerika and sold them to friends and acquaintances. But soon, the request grew and after a few collections, Emma Francois was no longer a secret tip. It was time to decide if to continue seriously or just keep fashion design as a hobby.

Emma Francois decided to professionalize. She founded Sessùn, dislocated the production from South-America to France, hired graphicdesigner Vanska who is still today responsible for the strong visual identity with her print designs and started to establish her brand in the world of ready-made clothing.

Today, more than 10 years later, Sessùn stands for fashion from South France and wins against the verticals not with heavy headed design concepts but with a playful mix of feminine and sportive pieces, with a sympathetic portion of girlishness, high-quality manufacturing and affectionate details.
