Stolen Jewels by Mike and Maaike
13. January 2009 Accessories & Jewelry

Dutch-Californian duo Mike and Maaike herald the era of jewelry thievery 2.0 with using Google & Photoshop instead of guns and masks. With their jewelry collection “Stolen Jewels” the artists explore the tangible vs. virtual in relation to real and perceived value. In their words: …
“Using Google Image Search, we browsed through some of the most expensive and often famous jewelry in the world, the low-res images we found were stolen, doctored, then transfered to leather, creating a tangible new incarnation. With the expense and intricacy of the jewels stripped away, their essence and visual intensity are extracted.”
The “Stolen Jewels” are available here and…unfortunately as expensive as real diamonds.
