Snap and Dine

30. August 2008 Accessories & Jewelry Judith

Portable lunch setting by London-based product designer
Demelza Hill. “Snap and Dine is a single use three-course table setting that integrates disposable cutlery with traditional silverware. The portable lunch setting expands the possibilities of eating outdoors in style whilst reinforcing the correct use of cutlery, which has been lost over time. This is achieved through the decorative qualities and formal setting which both are a visual reference to fine dinning. This product is fun and interactive whilst raising the standards of current eating on the go habits.” (Text & Photos via Demelza Hill)

After 4 days writing about Copenhagen Fashion Week i promise, i prescribed a “Denmark-Pause” to the Zoo and to me. But as luck would have it, ArtRebels just lead me to… Hvass&Hanniball … and Hvass&Hanniball right went into my heart.
The young Copenhagen based art and design studio is runned by two highly creative woman -Sofie Hanniball and Nan Na Hvass- who seem to be artistic-powerhorses concerning the amount of output in multiple design and art disciplines. From illustration to graphic- and productdesign, from artwork, installations to textiles in the Hvass&Hanniball portfolio there´s nearly no creative discipline excluded. Dish of the Day is a free project by the designer duo - if it´s the entry ticket into the advanced discipline of food design might be questionable, but still, a fun project to watch. Don´t forget to check out the Hvass&Hanniball workshow. DGI City is also a project i got into.

Butterfly inspired designs - from odd to fantastic and back

Beloved butterfly, when we were kids, we sung about your beauty - since we are grown up, we abstain from singing and switched to creating. We still like you so much that you´re very often involved in designers output. I guess, you were pleased about the butterfly headdresses by Alexander McQueen - those even looked coy on princess Beatrice. That you and Uma Thurman hit it off is obviously shown in Another Magazine and when it comes to butterfly-inspired jewelry, even the designers stay in the ballpark.
Putting you on walls comes out great when you have a look at Paul Villinski´s trash artwork but street-artist Pure Evil unfortunately has to bring more to not bore us away. Putting you on dresses to beat your heartbeat controlled wings might be technically interesting -  but when you go to a hot date, it´ll give you for sure a hyper-creepy touch. I´m sorry, beloved butterfly for this kind of abuse. The color changing eco lights…wmauh…we better forget about this plastic cruelty. More butterfly-inspired creations can be seen here. And now, my beloved butterfly, it´s time to intone a song to praise your beauty. Even the greatest idea, the keenest creation and the hippest technical invention can´t get close to your natural beauty.

Uuuhh…the pressure necklace by productdesigner Fabian Seibert isn´t exactly the piece it would wear by day or by night.
But still - it´s an interesting piece that he designed and produced for his graduation collection back in 2004.

Train plaid? Plaid train? - Art by Florence Doléac

In Kyrgyzstan, the bride´s mother sews a rug that has as many as possible crossing seams. Each intersection point will bring a lucky day to the couple´s life - this is what the tradition says.
Designer and artist Florence Doléac got inspired by this tradition and created „La Chaise mise à nu”.
French Florence Doléac´s work bridges the gap in between design and art. She questions definitions and functions with the objects she creates out of articles of daily use. If it´s her humour or the ability to inspire her objects with a very poetic touch - I am not exactly sure WHAT it is that makes me stunned. I can only state - I am.

2 Years ago, the whole gladiator-style came up and nearly every starlet put some of these antique inspired leather-sandals on the feet. This year, Greece Is For Lovers pushes the level with the skateboard version. Nice idea!
