After the heavy weighting, voluminous and silver dominated “Paradoxa” collection which I adored, Maria Francesca Pepe´s winter collection comes along way more soft and floating. Working with materials such as calf, iguana and caiman, sheep skin and brass Pepe gave the “Mucha” pieces a more flowing, fleet-fooded impression. The oversized shapes stay, but are supplemented by some more filigree pieces and although I have to admit that I am not yet of the fashion-forward mark for leather-wobblings around my neck – I totally got for Maria Francesca Pepe and her unique handwriting in jewelry design. When stories start with „they met through internet and immediately liked each other” i HAVE to yawn and turn away. What follows is mostly the usual internet love story boredom. But still, there are stories about internet-friendship that do not only amaze me - that make me even write about it.
The story of Ana and Abigail also starts with “two, who met through internet and really liked each other”, and thankfully, it ends exciting. Two creative bloggers - Ana Ventura from Queluz de Baixo, Oeiras, Portugal and Abigail A. Percy from Glasgow. Scotland met through their blogs. Ana, who is working in the fields of illustration and graphic design adored Abigail´s jewelry designs and vice versa.
So, the two Bloggers decided to collaborate and created a young and small jewelry edition, designed by Ana Ventura, manufactured by Abigail A. Percy. I really hope, there will be much more “internet-stories” like this one!

Beloved butterfly, when we were kids, we sung about your beauty - since we are grown up, we abstain from singing and switched to creating. We still like you so much that you´re very often involved in designers output. I guess, you were pleased about the butterfly headdresses by Alexander McQueen - those even looked coy on princess Beatrice. That you and Uma Thurman hit it off is obviously shown in Another Magazine and when it comes to butterfly-inspired jewelry, even the designers stay in the ballpark.
Putting you on walls comes out great when you have a look at Paul Villinski´s trash artwork but street-artist Pure Evil unfortunately has to bring more to not bore us away. Putting you on dresses to beat your heartbeat controlled wings might be technically interesting - but when you go to a hot date, it´ll give you for sure a hyper-creepy touch. I´m sorry, beloved butterfly for this kind of abuse. The color changing eco lights…wmauh…we better forget about this plastic cruelty. More butterfly-inspired creations can be seen here. And now, my beloved butterfly, it´s time to intone a song to praise your beauty. Even the greatest idea, the keenest creation and the hippest technical invention can´t get close to your natural beauty.

If Rosie Kent´s and Liria Pristine´s heads wouldn´t have flashed so über-blond and über-red, i certainly would have passed the window, the two were sitting in during a Berlin Fashion Week event. Instead of, I turned back and got enchanted.
Spreading both, a breeze of 20s Swing and water waves era and an urban cosmopolite-coquettish charm, Rosie and Liria, the heads behind Pristine Smut, presented their unique knitwear jewelry on a table and on their necks, arms and heads. Knitted jewels to reallocate, to adhere and to drape - so far, always an aversion to me. Too much knit, too much volume, too much extravagance, too much attention.
But against my expectations, the knitted jewels draped on real woman looked great. Precious and covetable, yes, even really charming and unobtrusive. There was no sign of this absurd seriousness and hyper-artsy attitude that made me feel so uncomfortable with knitted jewels so far.
And so, today I am looking forward to present the young jewelry label Pristine Smut to you and I really hope, the two Central Saint Martins graduates Rosie Kent and Liria Pristine let lots of heads turn while sitting in that window in Berlin.

Nor is Otto von Quast a long-term professor of philology, neither a member in the club for handlebar moustaches - Otto von Quast is the name of a Berlin-based design studio runned by two sassy designers - Verena Kern and Britta Knüppel - who design unconventional jewelry, develop inventive products and fiddle about pulsating art projects.
Originally, the 24 Carat Pets vegetated as worthless, discarded toys, collector´s items or dust catchers. Gilded with 24 carat hard gold, the pieces transform into magnificent pendants and brooches that find their path back to the world as stunning unicums.
Maybe, I should step by with the box I host my childhood memories in. From deer to rabbit, there´s a lot to find. I dimly remember a penguin…. To say nothing of some ugly figures from kinder surprise eggs that I didn´t dare to depollute yet.

There’s nothing funnier than a fake moustache, bushy eyebrows, big nose and specs combined. Now you can keep your face looking pretty, and wear this Groucho Marx style disguise round your neck. This enamel pendant comes on a 18″ silver chain and is available at Lazy Oaf.
