Dear Maria Francesca Pepe, today it is the forth time, i talk about your work. Two years ago, it was “Paradoxa”, your first collection that caught my eye and made me immediately fall in love with your ability to transform unusual shapes and heavy-weighting volumes into wearable jewelry. Then there was “Mucha”, modeled by Alice Dellal. You experimented with materials such as calf, iguana, caiman and sheep skin and oversized shapes that were supplemented by some more filigree details and pieces. This was pretty refreshing.And then, it happend, that you started to mix  fashion design and jewelry making in “Art Brut”. This was the point were i got lost.

Like i already wrote, wether it were the shots, or the fashion – i didn`t get the uniquesness of your collection.  But thankfully, this changed with your fantastic “Les fabulous C” collection. Back on the track i just praised  – the fashion and the jewels, the way how you brought them together and my joy to be able again to dream about wearing Maria Francesca Pepe. Curiously and full of expectations, i landed on your website again to find “Bathing Beauties”. A collection of dresses, jewelry and shoes for summer 2010. While watching your fashion film, i dreamt away to old Hollywood, became a diva, standing on a pool. In one of my bejewelled hands a cigarette, in the other a glass of champaign. Hair well done, head held high and warm summer breeze caressing my soft flowing silk dress. BUT THEN – SHOCK. (more…)

If we do the Craig Lawrenceish way, in 2010, we will meet up in ruffled pop-pom catsuits, silver dominatrix see through costumes and over-yarned fairy dresses to celebrate the fantastic handmade knitted and crafted fashion universe of the young London-based designer. In his third collection, Craig Lawrence, a Central Saint Martin`s graduate, explores volumes and knits in a silver-red mix. Great match and obviously, fun to wear. (more…)

I can´t tell you how this picture (below) of Christian Neumann and Virginia Ferreira, the heads behind UK-based label  Belle Sauvage, makes my heart jump. Eight years ago, Christian, three other friends and i moved in an old house in a tiny Swabian village to spend one year together while studying.

Besides being interested in fashion as in other design-related disciplines, we spent our time on artsy fartsy things and new media design stuff and left one year later to go abroad.
If somebody would have told us, that eight years later, Christian is doing a fashion show during London Fashion Week with this girl he met in Buenos Aires, and that i will have a fashion blog writing about their label that went to zero to super-boost…we probably might have called this person a damn fool. As a jewelry designer, she raised the fashion crowd by storm. Massive pieces with extroverted charme and cool elegance are significant elements of Maria Francesca Pepes portfolio and the translation of her avant-garde signature into the accessories-segment worked at first go.

But when the London-based designer included fashion designs into her last collection “Art Brut” the strong affection I always felt, when Maria Francesca Pepe came up with new collections, just …did not appear. (more…)

I can´t help, but I really prefer staged collection shoots to runway pictures.
It´s one thing, if you´re sitting in the show, getting visually in touch with the collection and feeling the atmosphere. This makes it easy to get the whole picture.
But if I am only able to see photos of walking models, it´s pretty hard for me to connect. (more…)

Although i am not for the playful and multi-colored things in my home, i´ve already mentioned that I´d love to share my living with squirrel Rudy Racoon and Oscar the dog, knitted by London-based super-knitter Donna Wilson. Now, there´s something new – the Donna Wilson trays. I have to admit, those great illustrated pieces would be the perfect fit for my lazy sunday breakfast mornings in bed. (more…)
