Grandmother was as important as Parsons? When it comes to formal education, this statement seems kind of naïve. But still, Jen Kao who was formally trained at NYU and Parsons before coming up with her first collection in 2007 describes her family, especially her Japanese grandmother as huge influence on her design approaches. Following Freud, our individual id´s follow the pleasure principle in seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. At least in our early lifes, when we haven´t been taught about the exigencies and obstacles of reality. Following fashion, the Pleasure Principle brings us nothing but comfort and pleasure far beyond our basic needs, with versatile garments that can be worn in multiple ways and which are restrained in construction by the parameters of the basic T-Shirt.

Founded by Adrian Cowen and Diva Pittala in 2002 with the intention to bring a conceptual artistic approach to the area of sportswear, Pleasure Principle is fashion basics at its best, combining soft bondage elements with casual, urban fashion for him and her. (See more after the jump) (more…)

15 years of setting up bags, clothes, sunglasses and jewels in still lives without getting bored – this needs a huge portion of passion. 15 years of developing fresh ideas, of avoiding repetition but continuously upgrading the level of visual storytelling – maybe this is pure genius.

Like no other, New York-based artist Bela Borsodi ads character and identity to lifeless fashion pieces. His still-life series are storytelling artworks, the protagonists: clothing and accessories. (more…)

Watch out, there´s a talent, you should know about. It´s Claude Grant- a young US-designer who is introducing a new look of traditional American menswear by refreshing proportions and silhouettes.
Sympathetically, without any BlingBling and shout-outs, but with great understatement and well finished looks. The key signatures are the high waisted pants and slouchy tops, behind the scene, there´s only high-quality materials and real handcrafting.

It´s fashion from New York, made in New York and thankfully, although the collection is very small, it´s bringing a breeze of fresh air into wearable menswear.

The truth is I’ve always wanted to be happy and loved and accepted-to relax–but it never seems to quite work out. The one good thing, the one absolutely truly dependable constant in my life is painting. Whatever happens during the day, however hard life is closing in, if I’ve made something in the studio or on the street, I’m gonna be okay.” – Dan Witz

It´s rare that an artist is as well accepted as a street artist, as a traditionally painter.
For New York-based Dan Witz, who´s working on the streets since the 70´s doing artwork for galleries is not mutually exclusive street art. (more…)

I found this great article, giving a considerable insight about the development of former fashion collective AsFour which has transformed into the famous fashion label ThreeAsFour.
It´s very interesting 5 pages about the coincidential meeting of the four designers Kai Kühne, Adi Gil, Gabriel Asfour and Angela Donhauser, the start of their fashion collective and the famous split.
A story, only life could write – very recommendable and insightful: READ HERE. (more…)
