Anna-Sara Dåvik – Nail Gloves

17. February 2009 Accessories & Jewelry Judith

Some days ago, Anna-Sara Dåvik presented her first collection in the context of Stockholm Fashion Week.
While not disliking her collection, but not exactly adoring it, I am stunned by the black gloves with silver nails the former Beckmans and Central Saint Martins student presented. What a surreal idea. (more…)

Wearable story – Whale and the Panflute

6. January 2009 Books & Magazines Judith

David Berglund, David Orlic and Olle Hemmendorff came up with a fantastic graduation project at Stockholm´s Beckmans School of Design: Whale and the Panflute. It´s a performance-show in form of a book.
A story is told with texts and pictures, the included LP and Mp3´s for download bring the soundtrack and textiles in the form of screen-printed scarves make the story about pollution, the poor condition of the sea and threatened living environments wearable. Great idea.
The book is available for 50€ here. (more…)

If by accident or planned, The Stray Boys didn´t chose the wrong direction in choosing to design fashion for those who have a little more interest in fashion than the average customer.

Diana Orving – 7 Person Costume

13. October 2008 Art & Fashion Judith

It´s not often that I go to motto-parties, but if, i always follow the same ridiculous behaviour pattern. First I take it easy and resolve to just put something on without doing the big act. But, some hours before the party starts, I start running amok to find the perfect costume. Always. How stupid!
Diana Orving finally offers a perfect solution for my repeatedly coming last-minute costume problem. Her 7 person costume doesn´t only offer many variations – it offers also enough space to cover up my friends who go as wild as me with their hectic costume search. Finally a really practical artwork. Thanks, Diana.

Oh, this time it´s not a man, it´s a dress i am totally in love with. Unfortunately, with 760 € “little” bit too expensive for me. This means king size lovesickness :-(

Dear Catastrophe Waitress

2. September 2008 Designers & Labels Judith

To bring humor into fashion, without appearing clownish and volitional is a tightrope walk that young Swedish designer Ulrika Sandström is proficient in. “Dear Catastrophe Waitress”, originally a songtitel of Belle and Sebastian, was as well eponym as inspiration for Sandström´s current autumn/winter collection. The uniform-like, strict appearance of waitresses, fashion-disasters and a lot of humor and love incorporated into a unique and exciting collection were every piece became a real eye catcher. Combining lots of playful details like oversized ruffles, a bit too large buttons, fake gold chains or childish prints with VERY feminine silhouettes, Ulrika Sandström is not making fashion for the faint hearted, but for the self-confident and humorous of us.
