Talent to watch – Mark Fast

17. January 2009 Designers & Labels, Knitwear Judith

Mark Fast is a knitter. At least on paper.
But you´d admit it´d be kind of insensitive – yes, indeed grossly negligent to describe the aspiring designers work as “knit dresses”.
It also would be way too easy to leave it at noting, the Central Saint Martins Ma Graduate and former Bora Aksu intern got awarded with the BFC New Gen Award in 2008….

Lots of people wrote about it, before I did. They ticked the stations of Fasts live, colored it with some excitement and plaudit and finally praised the designers collection.

But there was not much to read about the dedication, the passion and the love, the adopted Briton shows towards his work. Well, it´s just presumed to exist if someone such as Fast presents a collection.

But however – these are the key-factors which add the magic allurement of timeless beauty and ethereal elegance to the collection.

The dedication towards craftsmanship, the adoration of female beauty and the passion to connect these things through the sensitive language of fashion – this is what transforms fashion into art.
And this is what gives Mark Fast´s collection that breathtaking aura.

The personal, unique pieces have been brought to perfection through a „working on the body” manufacturing process which is the young designers style of developing and creating.
If this unusual and intimate operation method tends to be a curse or blessing will become visible in Fasts future collections. It´s certain that, if the 28-years old designer will manage to keep his sensitive style of designing and manufacturing, without looping his looks, he´s going to conquer the international fashion world.
