When I heard about the Icelandic design collective Vík Prjónsdóttir, a huge smile covered my face.
While winter season is the most horrible time for me - no matter what I wear, my hands and feet are frozen, my nose is running and I count the days for spring- it seems, that the designers of Vík Prjónsdóttir make best out of their long, icy and dark winter: The 5 designers of Vík Prjónsdóttir collaborate with Víkurprjón, one of the oldest and best known knitwear producers in Iceland and develop unconventional products that not only make subtle reference to local myths, customs, and needs but also are made of 100 % Icelandic sheep wool that is warm, light weight and water-repellent.

The sealpelt (above) refers to an Icelandic myth, where seals are believed to be condemned humans. Besides the mythical side-effect, the seapelt reminds me of a felicitous crossing of a jumpsuit and a sleeping bag that promises a comfy and cosy wintertime. If I could afford, I would chose a purple, yellow, silver one to add some trashiness. I wonder, what my postman would say, if I would open my office door in a brand new seapelt … :-)
